During National Mentoring Month, we are highlighting our year-round mentoring efforts at TCC. This month is about coming together to celebrate the power of supportive and meaningful mentor relationships.
DREAM Alive Partnership
DREAM Alive is a nonprofit mentoring organization that serves urban youth in at-risk communities in the Indianapolis, IN, area. They focus on breaking the cycle of poverty by helping youth discover career paths and mentoring them from 7th grade through high school graduation. These students are provided with three key opportunities: career-focused experiential learning, mentoring relationships, and character development.
TCC is a proud partner of DREAM Alive! We teach students all about working in the fast-paced retail industry, both in-store and at our Store Support headquarters. DREAM Alive students visit our stores to learn about the newest tech, how to successfully pitch and sell different products, and customer service. At our Store Support office, they learn about security, supply chain, human resources, website development, training, finance, and designing backpacks for our annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway. We also have some DREAM Alive students who intern at our Store Support office.
MILE CORE Group
At TCC, we have CORE Groups to Connect with Others through Respect and Engagement. These groups connect people who share a common interest, quality, background, or goal. They provide a safe and support network organized around a shared identity to recruit and retain a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Our most recent CORE Group is all about mentoring: MILE! MILE stands for Mentor + Inspire + Lead + Empower. Its purpose is to foster networking connections among employees across the company. People can apply to be a mentor or mentee and learn about leadership skill development, work/life balance, how to network, goal setting, career development, presentation and speaking skills, specific areas of expertise, and so much more!
