October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a month to raise awareness and end domestic violence for good. This cause is important to TCC and TCC Gives, and this month is an opportunity to use our platform to educate as many people as we can reach.
About Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a national epidemic that does not discriminate; it affects people everywhere regardless of age, gender, nationality, economic status, orientation, etc. One in four women and one in nine men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. Read about recognizing abuse here from the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
More Than a Phone
Our corporate giving initiative, TCC Gives, runs the nonprofit More Than a Phone with the help of local TCC stores and Community Partners. MTAP keeps survivors of domestic violence connected during their transition away from an abuser with free smartphones and data service. These phones are essential to help survivors regain freedom in their life. With their own device, they can safely keep in contact with family, friends, jobs, and more without being tracked by their abuser.
More Than a Tailgate
Support More Than a Phone by attending our annual fundraiser, More Than a Tailgate! This event is before the Colts vs. Titans football game on Sunday, October 31, 2021, from 10 AM – 12:30 PM at the Crane Bay Event Center in Indianapolis, IN. There’s also the option to attend virtually. All proceeds benefit More Than a Phone.
There will be a guest speaker, Beverly Gooden, and live music from The Katherine Nagy Band. Tickets to this event get you access to gourmet tailgate food, mimosas, and bloody marys before the game. Virtual tickets let you tune in to watch the guest speaker and band, plus a tailgate-inspired box will be delivered right to your door.
Busy on the day of the tailgate? You can also donate to support More Than a Phone here.
