Sharon knew that so many organizations could use the money, but after being in an abusive relationship for 25 years, she knew she wanted the money to go to the Domestic Violence Project, Inc. Unfortunately, there is still a stigma around discussing domestic violence, but it’s a common issue that 1 in 3 women have experienced and 1 in 4 men.
About the Domestic Violence Project, Inc.
This nonprofit was started in 1978 to help victims and survivors with a prevalent issue that no one was talking about. Since its founding over 40 years ago, DVPI has offered safety, compassion, hope, and healing to victims of domestic violence and their families. They also provide transitional housing and support for 6 months – 2 years for individuals and families when they are ready to take the next step in their healing process.
DVPI is doing important and necessary work, but they don’t receive that many donations since domestic violence is usually a cause people don’t want to talk about. The $10,000 donation is going to help DVPI operate their shelters, provide resources for their clients, client assistance, and more things that will help set survivors on a healthy and meaningful path.
