Supporting Survivors of Domestic Violence

More Than a Phone is our nonprofit that partners with domestic violence programs to provide free smartphones and data to the survivors they support. These phones are a safe and reliable line that cannot be tracked by their abuser. It enables them to stay connected to the world around them so they can build a strong foundation to support themselves and their families.

TCC stores partner with More Than a Phone and connect them with a local shelter in their area to bring the program to their community. More Than a Phone will assess that shelter’s need and assemble packages for them containing smartphones with four months of service and data, SIM cards, and chargers. The shelters will then be in charge of distributing these free smartphones to survivors during an important transition to freedom.

Our employee, Customer Service Representative Amanda M., recounts her firsthand experience with domestic violence and discusses the impact of a phone:

Want to help?

All TCC stores accept used smartphone donations in any condition! All device donations will be completely wiped of all content, then recycled or processed for resale (either parts or the full device), creating a donation for More Than a Phone. Before donating, please remove any passcodes from your device. Instructions can be found here.

You can also donate directly to More Than a Phone here.

Advocating for Awareness

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Our stores are dedicated to educating customers and their local communities about this issue and what they can do to help all month long. TCC employees also support More Than a Phone year-round through their Give5 program. Employees can choose to deduct $5/month (or more!) from their paycheck to go to More Than a Phone. TCC employees have donated over $71,000 through Give5.
